3rd Annual

Our Christmas Tree Hunt with the Dhara’s was a success.  Our tree is beautiful and fragrant and Baby Cakes loves it.  We think we may have had a baby at the exact right time to avoid a Christmas tree catastrophe.  This year Kade’s immobile and by next year he should understand “just look, don’t touch.”  Is that naive?

Happy Holiday’s!

Benched

As my maternity leave is winding down, a few weeks ago Kevin asked, “What is one thing that you want to accomplish while you’re on leave?”  I said, “I want to make that bench.”  Since we’ve moved in, I’ve wanted a bench in our entry way.  After looking everywhere and not being able to find what I want, I’ve talked about making a bench for the better part of a year.

Well, poor Kevin knows when I say “I wanna make [insert pretty much anything other than baked goods here]” he knows that means he will be put to work.

Like when I wanted to re-finish a dresser for baby’s room and Kevin had to paint it twice because the first blue looked even more cookie monster blue than this one does.

Or when I wanted to re-finish Dad’s old rocking chair for baby’s room.

Or when I wanted to DIY Kade’s announcement.

This little project was supposed to be fun for us to do together.  Of course, as with all of our projects, it ends up taking us ten times longer to finish than we expect.  Luckily, it was a beautiful day and we had an awesome, patient helper.

Here are the materials we started with:

I stained the legs while Kevin built the bench frame.

Then we stretched and stapled the batting over the bench and the foam.

Final step: wrap and staple the fabric and voila!  A brand new bench for the entry way!

Call Me Maybe

My new favorite, put it on repeat and sing at the top of my lungs song is Call Me Maybe.  I hate that I love it.  But I really, really love it.

I’m not the only one.  These guys dig it.  These gals do too.  President Obama and Mitt love it.  The Miss USA contestants sing it.  Even these dogs know it.  If you haven’t heard it, what rock have you been living under?

This isn’t the original but it’s Jimmy Fallon, The Roots and Carly Rae singing with classroom instruments.  It’s awesome.

Moves Like Jagger

Does anyone else LOVE this song?

I think the more I listen to it, the more I like it.  In fact, I just listened to it three more times while writing this post – and I can’t stop smiling.

Maybe it’s the whistling?
